What you need to know
The Project is open to any service member who is currently stationed anywhere overseas - not just in Iraq but also in Afghanistan, Kuwait, or any other place across the globe.
There are a lot of people stateside who'd like to support you by sending you care packages with goodies from home ranging from things you might really need (or want, to the assorted things care packages usually include, such as candy, chap-stick, music tapes, and so on, and so forth.
In order to receive support, you have to sign up for the project and all mail
must be sent to a unit representative who is solely responsible for getting all
letters and packages and passing them out to his or her unit. This is the only
way "any soldier" type mail can be sent overseas due to some security concerns
with the old system.
Why signing up is SAFE
We edit all unit sign-ups to make sure the information includes absolutely nothing that would violate operational security (OPSEC) rules. If you send us the exact number of people in your unit, the exact date you'll be redeploying, or any other privileged information, we will change it to be more general.
If supporters choose to send items to your unit, they have to contact us via email and give us their name and home address before we give them your unit address. We keep a list of all supporters in our files.
Your unit address will only be given out to people who provide the
information we ask for. It will never be posted on this website, on a mailing
list, or anywhere else anyone can access. Ever.
How to sign up
If you are willing to receive packages and other items for your unit, please read the following information on what to include and then contact the web team with the required information.
In your email, please tell us a little bit about your unit - how many people would like to participate, what items need or want, and any other information you'd like to include about yourself and your unit. Please make sure none of the information you send us violates OPSEC. Don't forget to let us know when you will redeploy so the mail doesn't end up "bouncing" back!
And, of course, send us the address these things should be sent to. The address should look something like this -
SGT Joe Snuffy
to any soldier
1st Plt A Co 123rd Artillery
APO AE 12345
Once we've got your information, we are going to put a few paragraphs about
your unit (and any photos, if you send them) on our Support a Unit page where
folks can read about the items you want and your unit.
Sign-Up Checklist
Make sure that you have the following handy when you sign up to be supported. If you've got everything in order, please send all the information to the following email address:
→ information about your unit, such as -
how many people would like to participate
what country you are located in
→ a list of things you really need or want
→ a list of things you don't need or want, if applicable
→ what kind of mailings you'd like -
letters, cards only
packages only
either
→ your unit address and name of person to send mail to
→ photo(s) of you guys, if you'd like to include them
→ an email address where we can reach you if we need to
→ URL to your unit's website if you've got one set up
Important!
If you sign up, please provide information about
when you will be redeploying, or keep our contact information at hand to let us
know when you know the date so that we can inform supporters to stop sending
packages when the time comes. We have been getting a lot of complaints that
items are returned when units have rotated home and did not tell us!
